Iveron Monastery

Founded on Mount Athos (q.v.) in 979 for monks from Iberia (Georgia), hence the name. It became a center of Georgian culture with a renowned scriptorium. Its katholikon (q.v.), completed in 983 and contemporary with the katholikon at the Great Lavra (q.v.), is among the oldest churches on Mount Athos.
